My Top Three Anime in 2011

In my opinion, 2011 was a good year for anime. While there were some flops, disappointments, there were a lot of anime that I particularly liked from this year. When picking the top three anime, I decided them based on their plot, their designs, and their songs. Here are my top 3 anime in 2011:

3. Nichijou – This was a tough choice since there were other shows that I thought could be in the top three, but I just had to put Nichijou in this list. It was just too funny to not put in this list. I loved the trio that was Yukko, Mio, and Mai and I really loved the duo that was Nano and little Hakase. The OPs and EDs were also addicting. The songs and the ridiculousness that is Nichijou put this show at number 3.

2. Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica – Again, I had a tough choice between this, but this time, I had to decide between this and my #1. Admittingly, the first part was a bit boring, but I liked the direction of the plot as the series continued. I really liked the scene design and animation and I also really liked the character design and concepts. The soundtrack was also great. If my #1 anime didn’t show, this would have been my favorite anime this year.

Now, to #1:

1. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai (AnoHana) – If there was a show that would make me cry every episode, this one would be it. Originally, I wasn’t actually going to watch this, but the ED was what got me in. Funny how I wasn’t planning to watch this, especially since I wasn’t planning to watch Angel Beats last year, which is now my favorite anime. I really liked the plot of this anime and as I said, I ended up crying every episode. I would even cry whenever I would hear the ED and the ED was also very fitting for the plot. The animation was great and the character designs were not over the top, unlike other anime I typically watch. It was great from beginning to end, making this my number one anime in 2011.

The number of anime has been noticabally dropped, but I hope that 2012 will bring more great, if not better, anime.

Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011 – Round 4 – Group C Final

The Group B Final has just finished and Erica has won. Here is the result from that match:

1. Erica Hartmann (Strike Witches): 377 votes

2. Tachibana Kanade/Tenshi (Angel Beats!): 323 votes

Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011 – Round 1 – C3/C7/C11

As stated in the update yesterday, the second set of Group C matches was postponed because the voting site was down for a while. So for now, we’ll have to wait until perhaps the next rest day, which is on September 2, for this match to occur. That day is not official yet, but rest assured, this match will happen eventually. With that out of the way, let’s look at the next set of matches, which should be a very interesting one:

Match C3:

Sendou Erika (FORTUNE ARTERIAL): 10th (Group F4)

Tsurumi Chiriko/Tsuruko (AnoHana): 8th (Group F6)

Kaname Madoka (Madoka): 1st (Group F1)

Match C7:

Sakuma Rinko (Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san): 15th (Group F13), 7th (Group S2)

Arashiyama Hotori (Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru): 12th (Group F1)

Sae (Hidamari Sketch): 13th (Group F1), 5th (Group S6)

Match C11:

Q (C): 11th (Group F14)

Run (A Channel): 5th (Group F4)

Akai Ringo (Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi): 16th (Group F4), 1st (Group S3)

That’s right! Today is her match. Before the main tournament started, I thought that she should have no problem until at least the group finals. However, that was before seeing how powerful the anti-Madoka faction is. Because of this potent force, I’m starting to doubt whether she can make it far. But, unlike Homura-chan, who had to face a strong Mikoto-chan, Madoka-chan isn’t facing particularly strong characters right now. So for now, I think Madoka-chan will win this, though Erika and Tsuruko could take the win away from her. If that happens, I’m less likely to think that the other Madoka girls, Sayaka-chan, Kyouko-chan, and Mami, will advance to the next round.

For the second match, we have a match of not-so-powerful girls. I think that Sae will win this match because she is from Hidamari Sketch. As for the other match, I see Run-chan winning this, though Q from C could possibly make it close…but not close enough. I’ll be voting for Madoka-chan, Sae, and Run-chan.

Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011 – Group Predictions

Well, the draws for this tournament have been done and looking at the draws, this should be an interesting tournament. Before I go any further, I will say that all five Madoka girls and Charlotte are all in different groups. Whether you like it or not, they will not beating each other up for now. Does that mean that they’ll take six of the eight final eight spots? We’ll see right now by going through each group and major matches that will or could happen:
