Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011 – Round 1 – B2/B6/B10

The second group of Group B matches have just ended and Ohana’s grandmother, Tsukasa, and Lingyin have won. Here are the results:

Match B1:

1. Shijima Sui (Hanasaku Iroha): 297 votes

2. Houjou Hibiki/Cure Melody (Pretty Cure): 265 votes

3. Charlotte (Madoka): 138 votes

Match B5:

1. Ayatsuji Tsukasa (Amagami SS): 322 votes

2. Kasugano Sora (Yosuga no Sora): 288 votes

3. Tokugawa Ieyasu (Sengoku Otome): 104 votes

Match B9:

1. Huang Lingyin (Infinite Stratos): 330 votes

2. Amakusa Shino (Seitokai Yakuindomo): 245

3. Sasa Kanako (Hourou Musuko): 110 votes

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is certainly one of the most infamous and most talked about anime lately in the otaku community. However, this popularity can bring in lots of enemies and haters. Well, Charlotte is not even one of the main girls and there is some bad blood even from some Madoka fans, so it’s understandable that she lost. But to see Charlotte behind two second preliminary girls really makes me think: does the four remaining Madoka girls even have a chance to advance even to round two? We need to wait for Madoka’s match in Group C to get a clearer picture of Madoka’s prospects. I understand Charlotte losing, but what I don’t understand at all is Ohana’s grandmother winning that match. How is she moe? I don’t even want to know. It’s totally possible that I’m wrong, but she’s got to be the oldest looking person to advance this tournament (I won’t say oldest since there are a few girls like Evangeline that are older than her, despite their looks). Hibiki got close, but apparently, Sui’s oldness and crankiness and Charlotte-hatefulness swayed the voters.

Tsukasa had a relatively close match with Sora, but Sora could not catch up with her after the first hour. And Lingyin-chan had an easy match, easily winning against Shino. My record is now 10-5 for predictions and 5-10 for picks.

Here are the next group of matches occurring today:

Match B2:

Sairenji Haruna (To Love-Ru): 13th (Group F10), 3rd (Group S4)

Gertrud Barkhorn (Strike Witches): 6th (Group F3)

Shiomiya Shiori (KamiNomi): 6th (Group F12)

Match B6:

Kurumi Erika/Cure Marine (Pretty Cure): 12th (Group F16)

Merry Nightmare (Yumekui Merry): 4th (Group F1)

Airi (Queen’s Blade): 11th (Group F7)

Group B10:

Musubi (Sekirei): 13th (Group F2), 10th (Group S1)

Yagyuu Jubei (Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls): 11th (Group F3)

Amane Suzuha (STEINS;GATE): 7th (Group F3)

Match B2 should be a close match between Gertrud and Shiori, but I think Gertrud has a slight advantage over Shiori. Merry-chan shouldn’t have too much problem in her match, though Airi might give her some trouble. Same thing with Suzuha; she shouldn’t have any problems either in her match. I’ll be voting for Haruna-chan, Merry-chan, and Yagyuu Jubei.
