Anime Saimoe Tournament – CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH – Sanzen’in Nagi vs. Nakano Azusa

We had 130 matches throughout this tournament, from the preliminary matches that determined who would fight it out in the main tournament all the way to the semifinals that determined who would be up today. A lot has happened in this tournament, some expected and some surprising. So now, we’ve hit the 131st and final battle in this tournament. Here are the two girls that will fight today for the title of Saimoe, the number one moe girl this year:

Sanzen’in Nagi (Hayate): 1st (Group F8), 50.5% (A9-1), 57.7% (A3-2), 50.1% (A Final), 57.6% (Q1), 57.1% (SF1)

Nanako Azusa (K-On!!): 1st (F1), 68.9% (G6-1), 47.4% (G2-2), 46.8% (G Final), 60.5% (Q4), 55.0% (SF2)

Of these two girls, Nagi has had the easiest time in this tournament. Minus the preliminary round, where Nagi barely won against Hitagi, none of the matches she had to go through were very tough. Sure, she might have faced some strong girls like Mafuyu-chan and Koromo, but those matches weren’t that close. Azu-nyan path to the final was a bit similar…until the group final. She had to face Poplar-chan twice, barely winning against her in the preliminary, but easily beating her and Momoko in the second round. The group final was especially tough because she had to face Mikoto-chan. If that weren’t enough, Mio-chan was in the same match, which led to a good possibility that she would lose due to split voting…but that didn’t end up happening; everyone threw their support to Azu-nyan and she ended up winning by a very small margin. But who will win this final?

Nagi is absolutely not new to this; in fact, she had been in this situation before. She had to face Rika-chan in the 2007 final match and she ended up losing because of foreign votes, causing many Japanese to become very angry. This is Azu-nyan’s first time up here, but she has had to face a Rie tsundere before. Last year, she didn’t have enough power in the group finals to get past Taiga-chan. We all know what happened after that. Now on to my prediction…I think this is going to be a close match. I also think this is going to be like last year. Azu-nyan might get a small lead in the beginning, but I think that Nagi is going to win…HOWEVER, there is one thing that might make me wrong. I think that non-Japanese votes lean more towards Azu-nyan than Nagi, while Japanese votes are the other way around. If the Japanese are not careful, we could have 2007 happening all over again. Well, I’m going to be voting for Azu-nyan, not because I don’t like Nagi, not because I like K-On, but because I think she is the number one moe character (that is still there). Nekomimi wins it all for me!
