Anime Saimoe Tournament – Round 1 – G6/H6

The fifth day of G and H group matches have just ended and Poplar-chan and Mugi have won. Here is a summary of those two matches:

Match G5:

1. Taneshima Poplar (WORKING!!): 354 votes

2. Eruru (Utawarerumono): 116 votes

3. Kan’u (Koihime Musou): 84 votes

4. Kongou Mitsuko (Railgun): 79 votes

Match H5:

1. Kotobuki Tsumugi (K-On!!): 344 votes

2. Ryuuguu Rena (Higurashi): 197 votes

3. Kotegawa Yui (To Love-Ru): 107 votes

4. Harukaze Chiharu (Hayate): 49 votes

Poplar was so popular here that she had no problem winning this match. But unfortunately for Eruru, this means an early departure for her in her last Saimoe. She might not have won, but she did get very close, making it all the way to the quarterfinals all the way back in 2006.

The other match was a bit closer, but by no means was it close. Mugi, with the popularity of HTT by her side, easily won her match over Rena. Like Eruru, this is Rena-chan’s last year here also. She narrowly lost to Nagi in the quarterfinals the year that Rika-chan won. At least those two have accomplished something that most other girls could not come close to doing. That brings my predictions up to 48-16 and my picks to 33-31.

Here is a look into today’s matches:

Match G6:

Takanashi Kozue (WORKING!!): 5th (Group F2)

Shannon (Umineko no Naku Koro ni): 10th (Group F11)

Nakano Azusa (K-On!!): 1st (Group F1)

Itoshiki Rin (Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei): 16th (Group F6), 24th (Group S3)

Match H6:

Sonogi Yukina (Senkou no Night Raid): 17th (Group F16), 12th (Group S3)

Haruue Erii (Railgun): 17th (Group F7), 12th (Group S3)

Etou Fujiko (Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou): 22nd (Group F7), 23rd (Group S2)

Kirishima Shouko (BakaTest): 6th (Group F6)

Predictions:

Azu-nyan is going to be facing one of the Katanashi sisters today. She barely won the preliminaries by beating Poplar-chan, but Kozue is not as popular as Poplar-chan, so she should win easily. She might even get some sympathy votes since she’ll be all alone without her sempais soon. I, for one, will be voting for her because she needs some love right now because I know exactly how she feels.

Well, it’s a bit easy to guess who will win this other match. BakaTest has been doing very well this year and Shouko should be no exception to this trend. I will not be voting for her though; I will be voting for Erii-chan.
