Anime Saimoe Tournament – Round 1 – G2/H2

The first matches of group G and H are over and Biri Biri-chan and Mikan-chan won. Here is a summary of those matches:

Match G1:

1. Misaka Mikoto (Railgun): 364 votes

2. Kanae Naruko (Mayoi Neko Overrun!): 138 votes

3. Sonozaki Shion (Higurashi): 73 votes

4. Ein (Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~): 55 votes

Match H1:

1. Yuuki Mikan (To Love-Ru): 221 votes

2. Konjiki no Yami (To Love-Ru): 169 votes

3. Tsukimura Suzuka (Nanoha): 78 votes

4. Konoe Konoka (Negima!): 75 votes

Mikoto-chan didn’t have any trouble advancing into the next round. No one could not come even close to this level 5 electromaster. As long as she is careful, definitely has a chance of going to the final eight, though she might have some trouble in the group final, but that’s still a long ways away.

It was a shame that Mikan-chan and Yami-chan had to be in the same match again. To Love-Ru had no problems getting more votes than the other two girls in this match. And like many of their matches together, Mikan-chan won. I really underestimated the power of To Love-Ru and I really underestimated the lack of power that Negima has (even though I should have noticed that already). Certainly manga power does not translate to anime power, especially if it’s just an OAD. Maybe next year, Negima will do better…maybe. And maybe next year, Mikan-chan and Yami-chan won’t get grouped together again…maybe. My predictions are now 41-15 and my picks are 30-26.

Now on to the next matches:

Match G2:

Chika (Hidamari Sketch): 9th (Group F12)

Mishima Akane (Kampfer): 7th (Group F7)

Shizuku (Omamori Himari): 4th (Group F13)

Kirishima Kotone (Nyan Koi!): 10th (Group F16)

Match H2:

Kinoshita Yuuko (BakaTest): 6th (Group F9)

Morishita Koyomi (Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou): 7th (Group F9)

Saber (Fate/stay night): 8th (Group F6)

Fate Testarossa (Nanoha): 1st (Group F13)

Predictions:

The group G match is going to be pretty close. Everyone did pretty well in their preliminary match and Chika was part of that epic group, so her ranking is higher than what she actually got. But I think the girl that should do the best in this match is the mizuchi loli, Shizuku. I think that the most popular of the Himari girls should be able to advance, though Chika could give her trouble. I will also be voting for Shizuku.

We have another interesting match today and that is in group H. Everyone here also did well with, of course, Fate-chan winning her group. Now the question is, how will Fate-chan do against Hideyoshi. Yea, actually, you’re being tricked. It’s not class A Yuuko that is in this match, but actually class F Hideyoshi. Hideyoshi (what pronoun would you use for a person that has the gender hideyoshi?) is going to try to be the first ambiguously gendered person to win a match in this tournament. Fine, it’s not actually Hideyoshi, but Yuuko, Koyomi, and Saber-chan could all give Fate-chan some trouble. If it were actually Hideyoshi in this match, Hideyoshi could actually win this match, but it’s not Hideyoshi, so I think that Fate-chan should prevail over the others. Now the question is, who do I pick? I like Saber-chan and I like Fate-chan, but I guess I will support Saber-chan.
