Anime Saimoe Tournament – Round 1 – G1/H1

The final matches in the first round for groups E and F are over and Komoe-sensei and Mihoshi won. Here is a summary of yesterday’s matches:

Match E9:

1. Tsukuyomi Komoe (Railgun): 277 votes

2. Suzumiya Haruhi (Haruhi): 237 votes

3. Kusugawa Sasara (ToHeart2): 77 votes

4. Minakami Misao (Asura Cryin’): 55 votes

Match F9:

1. Akeno Mihoshi (Sora no Manimani): 220 votes

2. Airi (Queen’s Blade): 179 votes

3. Tsukubae Shizuka (Taisho Yakyuu Musume.): 86 votes

4. Tomokane (GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class): 69 votes

Just because you’re God, doesn’t mean you can win. That is what we just saw yesterday. Haruhi’s number 2, Haruhi, could not beat the drinking and smoking loli known as Komoe-sensei. In fact, she couldn’t get close to her. She’s going to have to hope that Yuki-chan can somehow beat Kanade-chan. In the other match, Mihoshi and Airi were basically head-to-head in the beginning, but after several hours, Mihoshi got a decent lead that Airi could not reduce. That brings my predictions to 40-14 and my picks to 29-25.

The biggest news of groups E and F has to be the loss of Hina-chan. It was a sad thing to see her lose, but group F is now a bit more interesting. It looked like Hina-chan had a decent chance of winning the group. We have two interesting matches coming up in this group. The first match will be an interesting match between Mafuyu-chan and Saki. The other interesting match is between Hitagi and Ricchan. Unless Hazuki-chan and Eva wants to surprise Yui-nyan, Yui-nyan could make it easily to the final. But, let’s talk about those matches when that comes. Angel Beats! did really well in these two groups, but it should be interesting to see if they can do well next round also. Iwasawa is going to have to face Aoi and Kanade-chan is going to have to face Yuki-chan.

So with six groups done with their first round matches, there are two more groups left. Here is a look into the first matches of these two groups:

Match G1:

Naruko Kanae (Mayoi Neko Overrun!): 14th (Group F15), 7th (Group S4)

Misaka Mikoto (Railgun): 1st (Group F2)

Sonozaki Shion (Higurashi): 15th (Group F4), 1st (Group S2)

Ein (Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~): 16th (Group F13), 8th (Group S2)

Match F1:

Konoe Konoka (Negima!): 15th (Group F11), 15th (Group S2)

Tsukimura Suzuka (Nanoha): 18th (Group F16), 22nd (Group S2)

Yuuki Mikan (To Love-Ru): 5th (Group F6)

Konjiki no Yami (To Love-Ru): 7th (Group F6)

It’s Biri Biri-chan’s turn to battle! Unlike another favorite tsundere, who unfortunately couldn’t advance, this tsundere shouldn’t have much problem advancing. I’d be surprised if anyone gave her some trouble. So other than the fact that Mikoto-chan is in this match, there’s nothing much else to say here, except that I will be voting for her.

The other match is going to be very interesting. We have two popular To Love-Ru girls in this match. If they had separate matches, they would have a decent shot of winning. Unfortunately for them, they have to face each other…but you want to know something funny? They actually were in the same preliminary group and in that matchup, Mikan-chan got slightly more votes than Yami-chan. Now, there is the other two girls in this match: Kono-chan and Suzuka. They, too, did face each other in a preliminary match and in that second preliminary, Konoka-chan won against Suzuka. Now why does that matter? Split votes could be a big factor here, more than other matches. Mikan-chan and Yami-chan are just too even to have one be heavily favored over the other. And that could lead to a Kono-chan victory. Mikan-chan has the slight advantage over Yami-chan, so this match will be between Mikan-chan and Kono-chan. For Mikan-chan to win, she will need a lot more people voting for To Love-Ru than voting for non-To Love-Ru. She has to hope that what happened last year in the second round (against Hina-chan), doesn’t happen again. I’m going to make this wild prediction that that ratio will not be high enough and that Kono-chan will win. A daring prediction, but I will also be supporting Kono-chan.
