Anime Saimoe Tournament – Round 1 – C8/D8

Day 7 of the group C and D matches are now over and Captain and Hiro won their matches. Also, Mii and Kyou won their matches the day before yesterday. Here is a summary of the matches from the past two days:

Match C6:

1. Konori Mii (Railgun): 213 votes

2. Sheryl Nome (Macross): 144 votes

3. Miyanaga Teru (Saki): 115 votes

4. Liechtenstein (Hetalia): 93 votes

Match D6:

1. Fujibayashi Kyou (Clannad): 258 votes

2. Sonohara Anri (Durarara): 122 votes

3. Charlotte Hazelrink (Princess Lover): 98 votes

4. Ogata Rina (White Album): 79 votes

Match C7:

1. Fukuji Mihoko (Saki): 304 votes

2. Yamaguchi Kisaragi (GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class): 151 votes

3. Hinagiku (Hanamaru Kindergarten): 127 votes

4. Houjou Satoko (Higurashi): 88 votes

Match D7:

1. Hiro (Hidamari Sketch): 249 votes

2. Celty Sturluson (Durarara): 125 votes

3. Question Fairy (Kakkoii ichinensei ni Narou): 117 votes

4. A-tan (Hayate): 111 votes

Something I forgot to factor in for match C6 was revenge voting. Kazari lost by only one vote in her match against Hisa. Voters made sure to get their revenge against Saki. I also underestimated Mii’s power. It was tight at the beginning against Sheryl, but Mii started pulling away after several hours. Kyou’s win in match D6 was expected; she really didn’t have any competition here. Nothing much to say for that match. As for yesterday’s matches, Mihoko and Hiro easily won their matches. The others in their matches had no chance of winning. Looking at the rest of the group C matches, there is a good possibility that Mihoko will be in an all-Saki match. So now, my predictions are 23-9, while my picks are 15-17.

Here are the two matches that are coming up today:

Match C8:

Mitsuki Sohara (Sora no Otoshimono): 7th (Group F3)

Kunihiro Hajime (Saki): 3rd (Group F7)

Eve Neuschwanstein (NEEDLESS): 10th (Group F10)

Sonozaki Mion (Higurashi): 12th (Group F1)

Match D8:

Ushiromiya Ange (Umineko no Naku Koro ni): 13th (Group F11), 4th (Group S4)

Aruru (Utawarerumono): 6th (Group F5)

Tsuzuki Otome (Mayoi Neko Overrun!): 12th (Group F11)

Ichinose Yumiko Christina (Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou): 10th (Group F13)

Predictions:

Higurashi has sure lost a lot of power since Rika-chan won Saimoe in 2007. Back then, Mion made it all the way to the third round, losing to Rika-chan. Now, Mion might be getting last place, just like Satoko did last match. For this match, Hajime has the best chance of winning here. Sohara might give her some challenge, but I think at the end, Hajime will find a way to win. I will be giving my vote to Hajime.

It is a little harder to see who will win match D8. Aruru certainly did do the best of the four girls in this match, but Utawarerumono is not as powerful as it was in the past. Yumiko and Otome could give her some trouble, but I don’t think they will be strong enough to totally stop Aruru. I will also be voting for Aruru.
