Anime Saimoe Tournament – Round 1 – C6/D6 and C7/D7

The amazing matches of yesterday are now over and Hisa and Kuroko won their matches. Here is a summary of yesterday’s matches:

Match C5:

1. Takei Hisa (Saki): 446 votes

2. Uiharu Kazari (Railgun): 445 votes

3. Segawa Izumi (Hayate): 136 votes

4. Souya Yuki (Taisho Yakyuu Musume.): 51 votes

Match D5:

1. Shirai Kuroko (Railgun): 507 votes

2. Kijima Saki (Hayate): 210 votes

3. Soga Keena (Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou): 144 votes

4. Tsuruya-san (Haruhi): 132 votes

Yesterday’s group C match was a very interesting match. I didn’t think that Izumi-chan would have won this match, but I didn’t think it was going to be that bad. I don’t think I’ve seen a first preliminary round winner lose that badly. This match was just between Buchou and Uiharun. There was something I failed to notice earlier that would help explain what happened here. All but one of the first round group C matches has a girl from Saki (the only group C match without someone from Saki took place was during Koromo’s group D match). So, what does that mean? There would be a decent possibility that there could be an all-Saki group final match. Wouldn’t that be interesting? The next match does have Teru, but could she really beat Maria and make that happen? So by voting for Hisa, an all-Saki final is more likely. Kazari had a lead for most of the match. Later on in the match, Hisa managed to tie Kazari, but Kazari managed to take the lead again. And then, Hisa squeezed out a win in the last hour. ONE VOTE! That is the difference between Hisa and Kazari. Maybe I should have voted for Kazari…but I needed to give Izumi-chan some support. Matches like this one are what makes the Anime Saimoe Tournament so interesting. An amazing win by Buchou and a devastating loss by Kazari and Izumi-chan.

No one had a chance against Kuroko. None of the other girls were really as strong as Kuroko even before the match and this match just proved it. She easily made it to the next round. This brings my predictions to 20-8 and my picks down to 13-15.

Here are the two matches going on today and tomorrow (since I will not be here tomorrow):

Match C6:

Sheryl Nome (Macross): 11th (Group F6)

Konori Mii (Railgun): 11th (Group F15)

Miyanaga Teru (Saki): 8th (Group F9)

Liechtenstein (Hetalia): 19th (Group F12), 11th (Group S1)

Match D6:

Fujibayashi Kyou (Clannad): 2nd (Group F2)

Charlotte Hazelrink (Princess Lover!): 18th (Group F10), 21st (Group S3)

Ogata Rina (WHITE ALBUM): 22nd (Group F4), 9th (Group S4)

Sonohara Anri (Durarara): 8th (Group F13)

Match C7:

Fukuji Mihoko (Saki): 1st (Group F14)

Yamaguchi Kisaragi (GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class): 13th (Group F4), 9th (Group S2)

Houjou Satoko (Higurashi): 12th (Group F1)

Hinagiku (Hanamaru Kindergarten): 7th (Group F7)

Match D7:

Celty Sturluson (Durarara): 16th (Group F4), 5th (Group S4)

Hiro (Hidamari Sketch): 3rd (Group F2)

A-tan (Hayate): 14th (Group F5), 16th (Group S2)

Question Fairy (Kakkoii ichinensei ni Narou): 17th (Group F10), 17th (Group S1)

Match C6 is not a particularly strong group. Sheryl and Mii managed to make it past the first preliminary, but they will have a tough time against Teru. She is probably the strongest in the group and she should manage to make it to the next round. Though, there is that slight possibility that she might lose so Hisa has an easier time advancing. My vote will go to Teru.

In match D6 is the only Durarara girl to advance in the first preliminary, Anri. Unfortunately, she will be facing Kyou. Her younger twin, Ryou, advanced to the second round in an earlier match, so there is no reason why Kyou won’t be advancing to the next round also. My vote here will be going to Kyou.

In match C7, we have Hinagiku, but not the powerful tsundere Hina-chan that we all know of. She’s not as strong as Hina-chan and she has to face Mihoko. Mihoko shouldn’t have any problem advancing. She will be also getting my vote.

The only girl in match D7 that advanced in the first preliminary was Hiro. She also managed to do very well during her match. Unless something weird happens, there is no way that Hiro will lose this match. The question fairy will be getting my vote here.
