Anime Saimoe Tournament – First Preliminary Summary

This last group in the first preliminary has just ended and in this quiet round, Ayumu wins. Here is the top 12 of group 16:

1. Nishizawa Ayumu (Hayate) – 346 votes

2. Himeji Mizuki (BakaTest) – 326 votes

3. Todoroki Yachiyo (WORKING!!) – 300 votes

4. Suzukawa Koume (Taisho Yakyuu Musume) – 253 votes

5. Yamada (B-Gata H-Kei) – 252 votes

6. Manabe Nodoka (K-On!!) – 243 votes

7. Kikusaka Kochou (Taisho Yakyuu Musume) – 227 votes

8. Kan’u (Koihime Musou) – 203 votes

9. Nokizaka Mika (Nokizaka Haruka no Himitsu) – 202 votes

10. Kirishima Kotone (Nyan Koi!) – 196 votes

11. Kannagi Noel (Sora no Woto) – 195 votes

12. Kuzaki Rinko (Omamori Himari) – 190 votes

This final round in the first preliminary was very quiet compared to yesterday and the past couple of days. Ayumu proved to be strongest today with a mere 346 votes. Compare this to Shana’s 663 votes and Yui’s 931 fake votes yesterday. BakaTest’s top contender, Mizuki, took second, while WORKING!!’s Yachiyo took third. K-On!! gets Nodoka into the next round and Taisho Yakyuu Musume did pretty well itself.

Today is the draws for the second preliminary (for those placed 13th to 39th) and tomorrow is a rest day, so I’ll start talking about the second preliminary when it’s about to start. So for now, I’ll just summarize this first preliminary.

K-On!! did pretty well with all of its main girls in. A lot of no name girls in K-On!! didn’t make it, of course. Azu-nyan and Ui both took the top spots in their group but what will be remembered in this preliminary is the enormous amount of fake votes that Yui and Mio-chan took. Mio-chan had over 220 fake votes, but Yui really topped that off with almost 950 fake votes. Something about K-On!! really gets fake voting going.

Bakemonogatari did amazing this round. You won’t be seeing any Bakemonogatari girls the next week because all of them made it. They had eight girls going into this tournament and all of them already made it into the first round. Sure they didn’t get the top spot in any of the groups, but this is just a preliminary, right?

Saki still proves to be a very strong force by sending 14 of their strongest girls into the next round. That’s still one less than last year, but they can still get another 21 girls into the next round in this next preliminary.

Angel Beats!! is doing well also, send seven of their girls into the next round and another five hoping to get into the next round. Yui-nyan managed to take the top spot in her group when she came back and narrowly beat Index-chan. Kanade-chan and Yuri did well, but couldn’t get the top spots because they were facing really strong girls in their group. Only if Yui-nyan’s mom got two more votes, they would have everyone still in contention.

WORKING!! was able to get their seven girls in (with four waiting to get in) with the popular Poplar being the top girl in their group. Seitokai no Ichizon and Mayoi Neko Overrun!! both got six girls in. Hayate is still strong this year, getting nine girls in (10 more still in contention) with Hina-chan, Izumi-chan, Nagi, and Ayumu all taking the top spot in their groups. Hidamari Sketch is doing better than last year and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is also doing well, even getting two top spots (Mikoto-chan and Ruiko-chan). Negima is proving to be a disappointment again, doing worse than last year as of now (only 3 advance and 18 hoping to advance). Nanoha and Fate are proving to be strong yet again.

So until Tuesday (Monday afternoon here), that is all for the Saimoe Tournament.
